Southern right whales come to the shores of the Cape Whale Coast from June to November each year to mate and give birth in the shallow waters. Bryde's whales can be seen all year round, and humpback whales pass through between June and November on their way to the warmer waters of Mozambique.
Thanks to the excellent viewpoints provided by the cliff path along Walker Bay, the region has gained a reputation for offering the best land-based whale watching in the world.
